"And Seek Help in Patience and Prayer" [2:45]

﷽ (In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful) Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you all) Source from Google images. I said my first prayer on the 10th December 2014. My friend explained to me how to do wudhu (the act of cleansing yourself before prayer) and then primarily taught me how to pray the 2 rakats of Fajr namaz (morning prayer), talking me through it whilst I recorded it on my phone. I remember practising that night, listening back to the recording and making notes on it so that I would be able to pray Fajr for the first time that morning. Honestly, I cried. Subhan'Allah I have no idea why but after I had prostrated myself to Allah s.w.t for the first time (even though now I know that I was facing the wrong way) I couldn't help but cry, I'm going to assume due to emotions such as relief, hope, and accomplishment. After that...

Reactions of Family When I Came to Islam.

﷽ (In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful) Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you all) My family have never been religious. I wasn't christened and neither were my siblings. We would never attend Church nor would my Dad ever talk to us about religion, it just wasn't something that was within the family and still isn't. Putting it briefly, within the family over the years we've not had the best of luck in terms of losing people and so on, so a lot of the older members of my family have the view of "if there was a God then he wouldn't have done this to us". Whereas Alhamdulillah I've been able to see that Allah s.w.t tests those whom He loves the most. He puts us through hardships and grants us the strength to overcome them - and verily, with every hardship comes ease. I know that Allah loves me and I know that any neg...

My Hijab Story and What Hijab Means To Me

﷽ (In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful) Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you all) I think that without doubt, hijab can be considered a controversial issue, and that's even just the name never mind the physicality. Some see hijab as being just the head covering, whilst others know that it is much more than that. Hijab is everything, hijab is beauty. Hijab is one of the main things that stood out to me when I started to look into Islam. When I talk of hijab, I talk of the modesty that most Muslim women maintain. Modesty in Islam is a beautiful thing and as sisters we are proudly defined by our modesty. Before becoming Muslim, I was quite self-conscious about showing too much anyway, even just my arms for some odd reason. So I wouldn't say that the way in which I dressed was awfully inappropriate, but of course it differed to how...

Saying My Shahada/Declaring My Faith

﷽ (In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful) Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you all) It's amazing that before saying my Shahada I had already had such a journey - but I knew that in reality, it was only just beginning... Between late 2014 and early 2015, there was no specific thing that stopped me from becoming a Muslim. I knew what I wanted, but I wanted to know more before taking the final step, just incase . Guiltily, I would make little excuses up, but looking back that's okay because I know that it just meant that it wasn't my time yet. For example I had two holidays coming up before the New Year and I would think to myself "wouldn't it be an inconvenience, y'know like my passport and stuff? I'd get randomly selected in the airport! And I can't tell people that I only eat halal foods when I'm not e...

"I Have Some Books That You Should Read"...

﷽ (In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful) Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you all) I've mentioned having many Muslim friends, and I could take something from each one of them. I remember sitting by a friend in class as I was about to eat a Double Decker or something, and I said "do you say Bismillah before you eat?" to which she replied something along the lines of "aww how do you know?!" (those of you that know me from college can probably guess who that is). But what I'm getting to is for example from that day she then knew of my interest in Islam, so there then came a point Alhamdulillah where she invited me over to her house and I went with her Mum to a mosque for the first time; where I was more enlightened by a lady there and before going home, my friend's Mum borrowed me a copy of the Qur'an. Th...

When He Found Me Lost and Guided Me

﷽ (In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful) Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you all) It's clear that I'm a new Muslim, Alhamdulillah. But how did I come to be walking on this path of righteousness, peace and contentment. This post will probably be written as though I'm just talking sponteneously to a friend, since I haven't planned it and sometimes the journey isn't even clear to myself - which is why I (as I'm sure we all do) have a connection with the verses in The Qur'an "And He found you lost and guided you, and He found you poor and made you self-sufficient" [93:7] and [93:8]. I was blessed enough for Allah s.w.t to find me worthy of his endless mercy, blessed enough for him to guide me to Siraat al-Mustaqeem (the straight path), and every day without doubt I thank Him for that. So I've...

A Very Brief Introduction.

Salaam. I reverted to Islam around 3 months ago, and I'm hoping to share some of my journey with those who are interested, hopefully influencing and inspiring as I go along. If not then this will simply become a place for me to gather thoughts and so on. What to expect in the future from this blog assuming that I don't get lazy and abandon it? My Journey to Islam and all things that came with it - from starting to wear hijab to family reactions and anything that comes afterwards.
