Results Day

Results Day

Results Day has fast approached us, and now in the last hours of waiting I know that many of you will be full of worry and there'll be tension every time you refresh your emails in the morning, just waiting. What I plan to get through in this post has been said many a time, in better words than I could use, but I just want to go ahead and give my view on the whole situation anyway.

Each person is different, but I have never personally been one to spend time worrying about what might be on that piece of paper (maybe that should be a worry in itself). I simply don't feel as though I can allow a letter to define me, and on top of that - to this day I'm unsure as to what my aspirations actually are. I remain in my dreamy mindset of simply wanting to travel and see the beauty that this world beholds, photographing it along the way, for pleasure. It goes without saying that we all secretly want to see A's, but we all differ in reaction if we don't see that letter. I understand that these results are more important for some than others. I understand that some have set aspirations or have to live up to expectations of being a Doctor, a Dentist, an Architect, whatever it might be. But I wish it didn't seem to me as though people feel crushed if they don't achieve what they wished for, as though that's it, as though there's no other option now. Live, love, travel, appreciate and know that those results were already determined. If you believe in God then know that everything is already written, and He is the best of planners. If you don't believe in God then know that everything happens for a reason anyway. Who knows, in the long run being let down by these results could be the lead to you discovering a new you, coming across a new found love for something you never thought you might want to do in the future.

Results Day isn't the end of the world, if you worked hard then there's no doubt you'll get the results that you worked for. If not, life's short and there's no time to spend dwelling on what more you could have done, kicking yourself for those answers that you just couldn't remember when sitting in the cold exam hall, even though you know you knew the answer. Trust me, there's more to life than taking part in our education system, being tested on your memory or how fast you can write. You think the best Scientists were given 2 and a half hour time limits to discover what they did? You think Van Gogh timed himself when painting his masterpieces? Maybe my way of thinking is silly, but the way I see it, I won't be put to 'shame' by the system. I'm not claiming to know my politics and what not, but it's just boring, especially as these days, a degree doesn't even guarantee you the job you want. Just be you, do you.

That said, I do wish you all the best, and if you do get those A*'s and you do secure your place in uni to do what you dream of then good for you. That's just simply not a life that I feel like leading right now and I have faith that whatever plan I end up with, it will work out insha'Allah and I will be happy and I will have knowledge on all kinds of things that I could never be taught in school or college or university. It's written, you have your whole life ahead of you. Reflection.

I attend a programme every Thursday where after Du'a and Qur'an recitation, a different topic is discussed each week. This week the word 'reflection' became open for discussion. Though I didn't say anything in the moment, upon coming home I spent some time thinking about it (or you could say reflecting on it) and was also enlightened to other's views which I will include in this post since it was summed up well Masha'Allah. So I take no credit for the majority, sometimes others can put into words our views better than we do so ourself. Reflection is needed so that we can understand who we are as an individual, as a creation. Who are we? What are we made of? Unfortunately not many of us take the time to ponder or reflect in order to understand who our Lord is. Until He then grants times of difficulty which, for some, sadly encourages only temporary time periods of sincere worship to our Creator until things are back on track again. It has been said that ...

10 Reasons I Love Being a Revert.

﷽ (In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful) السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُه Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. (May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you all) I think that the title of the post speaks for itself so I'll just say that appropriate for my 10th post, below I thought of 10 reasons as to why I  love being a revert to Islam, rainbow style so it seems. Enjoy.  1. Having a past... This might raise the question of 'why would a person like the fact that they've done some things considered haram?' but of course they weren't wrong or haram to me at the time. What I'm referring to is being able to remember the abandonment of any sin, any arrogance or ignorance that I possessed beforehand, which Alhamdulillah wasn't of a drastic level since as I've before mentioned, people had told me prior to reverting that I would make a good Muslim. An example of past and present furthermo...

Presence.

Presence. Something that I've been thinking a lot about recently in the way that we as Muslims dismiss the presence of Allah swt and the Imam of our time, Imam Mahdi (AS). I attended a lecture recently where the speaker made some inappropriate references or made taboo jokes in order to appeal to our generation, mentioning no names as a lot of speakers have started to direct messages towards us in this way unfortunately. I say unfortunately because how have we come to this stage where we can't simply listen to a lecture on our religion that is straight to the point without some unnecessary added humour? Can't we just listen and take knowledge? Is Islam really a topic that we should take so lightly? There is laughter in the audience whilst I find myself gathering these thoughts, no signs of positive emotion on my face, looking blankly at the speaker. Maybe this makes me boring, maybe this simply makes me a little more aware of the presence that is not physical like the rest ...
